EQUIPMENT PAGE:

Worth noting to other sound professionals.........

I prefer to purchase my sound equipment from:

Rich Topham and his staff at Professional Sound Services in New York.. Don't be fooled by the New York address, my equipment gets to me just as fast as ANY other equipment provider, even faster......

They take care of business, get the equipment to you in a hurry, carry almost anything we use in the motion picture industry, and their prices are always the best!  I could buy from anyone locally, but Professional Sound  N.Y. is simply the best... for sales ask for Justin.... They will also make any cable you need for a reasonable price, unlike many other equipment houses........ $60.00 an hour for soldering ?...... I don't think so.....  not here....Click the link below for info, you will not be disappointed.

I OWN AND USE THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT:

FIELD RECORDERS:

We proudly feature FOSTEX recorders for a number of good reasons. There are a few File based recorders out there working in the field, but here's why I prefer the Fostex units...

For a short write up by me listed on the Fostex web site, just click on the link below...
http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/pro_news/dvd_user_stories_1.shtml

WHY DVD-RAM?
Heres why.....The disc is housed in a sturdy dust and dirt free cartridge which protects the reasonably delicate DVD disc from the normal handling grime, and abuse. Just look at the discs in your own DVD collection, see what I mean..... In the field this is important, period. If need be, the disc can easily be removed from the cartridge and placed in any computer. Anytime I can get a little back up protection, I'll take it. As long as this option is offered, I will use it. Naked DVD-Rs are fine,  but again, I will take the added protection...

A brief list of WHY FOSTEX Gear if you don't have the time to click the Fostex international link above...
First, the equipment works. Their gear has never let me down.

Second, this company has been building quality products, using thousands of skilled technicians and engineers since the end of the second World war.

Third,  The company has a large facility located in Los Angeles, CA.  and,  I can  get the gear serviced by other facilities in the L.A. area in an amicable time frame. That's important!

Forth, I can get a real human or a tech on the phone lickity split if I should have any difficulties ... without the usual hassles.

Fifth, Fostex gear has user friendly controls...actual controls and switches,  I feel too many menu drivin options are a hassle sometimes while on the fly, at least to me.... I like the FOSTEX blend of easy to get to pods, switches and controls.... Always have, always will....

THE NEW FOSTEX PD 606 ON THE WAY..........   Stay tuned for a full report....... Some great updates and changes make a great location recorder even better!
I really look forward to working with this new deck.....

WIRELESS

Comtek BST 50b  High power base station transmitter with fully adjustable frequency and channel selection.

Comtek m 216 trasnsmitter and receivers

PR-75a Receiver

Comtek  M-72 transmitters in "A" "E" "F" and "I" channels

16  client / agency / director  Comtek PR-72 and PR75a  receivers and headsets.   Behind the neck and 2 types of over the head headsets are available.

I specifically use the Comtek 72  and 75a  recievers for a reason. It is my job to be the critic regarding audio quality. Not the Clients, Agency or anyone else listening. I don't want to spend my day calming nerves and explaining why the leaves are rustling. Too much audio quality in this case can be counter productive. And, being that 16 pairs are being dropped, stepped on, left under bushes, and in hotel rooms, it can be a bit expensive. They are just the right amount of clarity for the job, no more, no less.....
